Biographies

Emily Lefkowitz, PhD, received her B.A. degree in Psychology from Washington University in
St. Louis and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Northwestern University. During her doctoral education, Dr. Lefkowitz completed two years of intensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) at Northwestern University and a fellowship in Psychoanalysis at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis. Dr. Lefkowitz completed her predoctoral internship at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior where she specialized in the treatment of eating disorders. During her post-doctoral fellowship at UCLA, Dr. Lefkowitz evaluated patterns of genetics and mental illness in families of children with ADHD.

Dr. Lefkowitz specializes in treating adolescents and adults with eating disorders, mood disorders and anxiety disorders. Broadly trained in dialectical behavioral, cognitive, behavioral, and psychodynamic treatments models, as well as numerous empirically supported interventions, Dr. Lefkowitz strives to address each individual’s needs with the appropriate clinical approach.

In addition to her position as Director of WiseMind DBT Los Angeles, Dr. Lefkowitz serves as an attending psychologist for the Adult Eating Disorder Program at UCLA, where she spearheaded the incorporation of DBT into the treatment of eating disorders. She also sees patients in her private practice in Westwood.

 

Erika Malm Cooley, LCSW, received her B.A. degree in Psychology from Wesleyan University and her master’s degree from the Smith College School for Social Work. During her graduate education, she completed specialized training in cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic psychotherapy for adolescents and adults. Erika completed a year-long certificate program in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and a two-year certificate program in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in New York City. She most recently served as an attending therapist for the UCLA Adult Eating Disorder Program.

Erika specializes in treating adolescents and adults with anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and mood disorders, as well as providing couples and family therapy. Her practice is grounded in psychodynamic theory, and incorporates a variety of treatment modalities, including dialectical behavioral, cognitive, behavioral, and sensorimotor therapy. Erika structures treatment to accommodate her client's therapeutic needs, using the modalities which will best help develop the psychological insights and skills required to make positive and lasting life changes.
